When I'm happy my weight drops, when I'm anxious, out of balance or stressed, my weight shoots up. Comfort eating is partly responsible, yet I could eat the chocolate and cakes when happy and still lose weight. I put it down to metabolism changing according to brain patterns. Despite being a very confident young adult, later in life I found myself facing challenges and changes which led to anxiety and a weight influx. Heidi was amazing in telling me how the mind/body connection worked when it came to eating for a happier healthier me! She told me that when we tell the mind we are now on a diet then the body immediately hears " famine coming, quick lay down emergency supplies!" Whereby if you tell your body you are going to eat healthier choice foods this panic doesn't happen because we are not on a diet! She taught me how to tune into my body in a more conscious way and listen to what it told me by it's reaction to certain foods. I have never been happier after losing over two stone with her loving advice and I don't have mad cravings so I can now enjoy all the food I love without the old worry of gaining weight. When Heidi asked me what part of the muffin I liked best I thought what is she up to J, of course I said the whole lot but again she asked which is your favorite part, so after a long pause I thought perhaps the middle bit is.
Heidi then took it and ripped it apart in 3 gave me the middle bit and walked to the bin and threw the rest of it away. I stood there in shock, couldn't believe what I had just seen her do. But as she explained that the middle bit will satisfy my craving, and yes she was right. Well it took some time to get over the shock of her putting what I wasn't to eat in the bin, I think it was the waste of food too that I couldn't understand.
Now when I want something I know I shouldn't really have I can just have a small bit rather than the whole lot and end up feeling guilty about I had just eaten. Having a small amount rather than depriving myself or feeling guilty about eating the whole lot makes me feel content. - Catherine
I saw Heidi at the Cambridge New Year New You. I had been aware how often I had been saying I was tired a lot. I had given up work the previous year to take time out and yet I was still tired. Feeling guilty about this I would have days when I would go mad and do lots of things, the next day I would have to write off as I had no energy at all. I did find this quite alarming but it was my fault, right?
Heidi pointed out that my adrenal's were shot and that my pattern was classic symptoms of that. I had been self medicating to keep going, because you must always keep going. So the cakes would give me a sugar rush, fill the hole and give a short burst of energy. Likewise smoking. I felt really guilty about both and was even more unkind to myself.
Heidi promised to send some new supplements that she had tried and told me to go to bed earlier and not use the extra burst of energy I got late at night to get more things done. I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the supplements and followed her advice. There was an inner resistance to something that was so simple, but Heidi does not ever say anything for the sake of it.
I was amazed at the difference that one small change made, after 5 early nights I had to stay up later and I noticed such a difference the following day. I was still having two types of exhaustion going on though. I still flagged a bit in the afternoon but not to the extent that I needed a sleep. I was also able to be kinder to myself about cakes and smoking and so found I was cutting down cigarettes and eating less cake because Heidi had shone her torch on why I needed them. I started to think about my energy levels, which when I thought about them were really very poor and was very moved by how hopeful I was about Heidi's supplements.
I realised that any improvement would be good but maybe Heidi was being a bit overoptimistic in my case. I have been taking them for a week now and after some detox effects from giving up caffeine in my tea, I drink lots of tea, I started to notice that I was waking up in the morning early and really waking up, not just hauling myself out of bed. I have not felt tired in the afternoons and get quite sulky if I am unable to get to bed at a good time. As for the tea I now have decaf and so I do not feel like I am losing out at all. I am not retaining so much fluid. and this is after week one. I notice that my energies are more synchronised and I can use my energy resources much more effectively.
